Isabella Stuopis received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the School of Engineering at Tufts University. Her doctoral research focused on Learning Assistants in Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering, particularly on the goals, discourse, and community associated with this pedagogical approach. Learning assistants (LAs) are near-peer members of the instructional team for undergraduate courses, designed to enhance student thinking and discourse while learning pedagogical techniques. Throughout her time at Tufts, she facilitated weekly pedagogy seminars for learning assistants and was involved with the Center for Engineering Education Outreach in the Department of STEM Education. In prior research under Dr. Avneet Hira’s NSF Career Award, she explored “Engineering Youth-led Technology-rich Settings”, which aimed at promoting belonging and preventing harm among middle school students in engineering contexts. Isabella is committed to mentoring and enhancing educational experiences in engineering.
