Dr. Ivanka Hristova

Biography

Ivanka Hristova is the Director of the Environmental Archaeology Lab and a skilled archaeobotanist based at Umeå University. With a solid foundation in archaeology, she has extensive experience in contract archaeology and her research endeavors focus on the investigation of human–plant interactions in the past. Hristova aims to reconstruct ancient diets, plant economies, and agricultural practices through the detailed study of plant remains. Her interests also extend to understanding human impacts on the environment, the use of woodland resources, and the history of vegetation development over time. She is actively involved in teaching within the Environmental Archaeology Master's program at the university, conducting courses on field laboratory methodology, theoretical frameworks, and advanced studies in environmental archaeology.
