Dr. Ivo Wallimann Helmer

Biography

Ivo Wallimann-Helmer is a professor of Environmental Humanities at the University of Fribourg, where he also serves as the director of the UniFR_ESH Institute. He holds a PhD in philosophy from Zurich and has a diverse academic background that includes positions in practical philosophy at the University of Zurich and a post-doctoral role at the Center for Ethics, University of Zurich. His teaching and research interests encompass ethics, political philosophy, climate ethics, and medical ethics. Wallimann-Helmer has played a significant role in advancing discussions of ethical decision-making in relation to environmental challenges, bringing to bear insights from philosophy to address issues related to food security in changing climate conditions. He focuses on developing frameworks for ethical governance that balance competing interests in sustainability and resource management. Through research projects, workshops, and conferences, he aims to foster international collaboration on solutions to pressing environmental issues.
