Dr. Jalal Kawash

Biography

Jalal Kawash is a Professor at the University of Calgary, where he specializes in teaching and serving as the Associate Head for Undergraduate Operations. With a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Calgary, completed in 2000, and a solid background in computer science education from the American University of Beirut, Jalal has a wealth of knowledge and experience in his field. His research interests encompass various critical areas including Distributed Systems, Distributed Algorithms, Memory Consistency Models, Virtual Communities, and Social Networks and Media. These interests reflect his commitment to advancing the understanding and design of systems that handle distribution effectively, a crucial aspect of contemporary computing. In addition, he is actively involved in computing education, where his focus on the pedagogical aspects of computer science aims to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
