Biography

James completed his undergraduate studies in French and Spanish Linguistics, working as an English teacher in France. He completed his Master's in Applied Linguistics and a PhD in Language Acquisition and Bilingualism at the University of Southampton, finishing in 2021. James worked as a Research Assistant on the Vulnerable Native Grammars project in 2022, was appointed as a Lecturer in Language Acquisition at Newcastle University, and returned to Southampton as a Teaching Fellow in Languages, Culture, and Linguistics in 2023. He is an active member and convenes the Language Acquisition, Variation, and Cognition reading group in the Department of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics. James is also an external member of the Language Evolution, Acquisition, and Development research group at the School of English Literature, Language, and Linguistics at Newcastle University. In 2024, he provided statistical expertise as a Research Fellow on a project related to heritage Spanish in the UK at the Department of Modern Languages at Birmingham University.
