Dr. James Kibbie

Biography

James Kibbie maintains a full schedule of concert, recording, and festival engagements in North America and Europe, including appearances at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, Royal Festival Hall in London, Dvořak Hall in Prague, and Lincoln Center in New York. His month-long concert tour of the Soviet Union in 1991 was lauded by the newspaper Pravda as 'a marvelous organist, brilliant interpreter.' He is a frequent jury member for international organ competitions, having been awarded the Grand Prix d’Interprétation at the prestigious International Organ Competition in Chartres, France, and also winning the International Organ Competition at the Prague Spring Festival in Czechoslovakia. Kibbie's performances have been broadcast on radio and television across the USA, Canada, and Europe, and he has an extensive discography that includes notable recordings of works by Dieterich Buxtehude and Johann Sebastian Bach. An internationally renowned authority on organ music, he has performed the complete cycle of Bach's organ works, with recordings that have received enthusiastic acclaim. His contributions to the University of Michigan and the field of organ performance are recognized by the endowed James Kibbie Scholarship which supports students majoring in organ performance and sacred music.
