Dr. James Nahachewsky

Biography

James Nahachewsky is the Dean of Education at the University of Regina, situated on Treaty Four territory, home to the Métis/Michif Nation. Born, raised, and educated in Saskatchewan, he has developed a deep passion for literacy education within middle years and secondary classrooms. His interest in understanding the impact of digital technologies on students' learning catalyzed his pursuit of a Master's degree in Education from the University of Saskatchewan and a PhD from the University of Alberta. Over his academic career, James has held various leadership roles, including Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at the University of Victoria. He is an accomplished author, having penned numerous articles and given presentations nationally and internationally on literacy, learning, and curriculum studies. He has co-edited the book 'Presentism: Re-imagining Historical, Personal, and Social Places in Curriculum' and was part of a research team that received a multi-year SSHRC partnership grant for a project titled 'Visual Storytelling in Graphic Art and Human Rights Education.' His research interests include Languages, Place-Based Learning, Holocaust Education, Schooling, and Artificial Intelligence, particularly within the contexts of Elementary, Middle Years, and Secondary Teacher Education for French and English Arts Education.
