Dr. James Skidmore

Biography

James M. Skidmore is a Professor in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo, where he serves as the Chair and Director of the Waterloo Centre for German Studies. His teaching and research focus on literary film studies, specifically contemporary German literature and culture, as well as comparative literature and the intersection of politics with literature and film. He is actively engaged in developing online courses and is an advocate for open education. His research interests span the representation of German political history in narrative arts and include diverse topics such as feminist cinema, literature of the Wende, public memorials of the Holocaust, and climate fiction. Skidmore has published numerous notable works on German literature and film, reflecting his dedication to advancing the field. He is also involved in university governance and has held various fellowships, including Teaching Fellow and Open Education Fellow at eCampusOntario.
