Biography

Jamie Murray graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Stirling in 2010 and completed his PhD with supervision from Prof. David Donaldson and Prof. Roger Watt in 2015. After several years as a post-doctoral researcher, he became a lecturer at the University of Stirling before moving to the University of Glasgow in 2021. His research background focuses on using Electroencephalography (EEG) to understand how new information is encoded and retrieved in episodic memory. He is particularly interested in developing new methods for manipulating and measuring memory via naturalistic tasks, as opposed to those typically used in laboratory settings. This includes creating measures of memory precision and assessing how memories are influenced by the content presented. Furthermore, he explores the role of mental imagery in memory, particularly how it interacts with the creation and retrieval of vivid mental images. At the University of Glasgow, he leads the Level 3 Physiological Psychology course, teaches Level 2 Research Methods, and supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate student dissertation projects. Additionally, he serves as the School's International Mobility Officer and co-leads the Psychology Employability network.
