Dr. Jan Ritchie

Biography

Jan Ritchie is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales, specializing in the field of Medicine and Health. With a focus on the School of Population Health, Ritchie conducts research that addresses beliefs and actions of consumers, community members, clients, and patients through qualitative methodologies, particularly participatory action research. In addition to exploring these perspectives, her work advocates for the creation of supportive health environments by investigating health determinants on global, national, and local levels. Ritchie's broad research interests encompass Health Promotion, Indigenous Health, Global Health, and Preventive Medicine, emphasizing the importance of consumer participation and education in health outcomes. She has developed a noteworthy profile in addressing health inequalities, particularly within Aboriginal communities. Ritchie holds a Diploma in Physiotherapy from Sydney, a Master's in Health Education, and a PhD from UNSW. She is actively involved in professional societies, having served as the Immediate Past Regional Director for the South Western Pacific Region of the International Union for Health Promotion Education (IUHPE) and as the Past President Life Member of the Australian Health Promotion Association.
