Biography

Jane Fisher is a Professor of Global Health and the Director of Global Women’s Health at Monash University. She serves as Co-Director of the Planetary Health Division within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. As a clinical health psychologist, her research emphasizes the social determinants of health and the importance of healthcare participation. Her work mainly focuses on gender-based risks to mental health and psychological functioning across various life stages, particularly during adolescence, mid-life, and in relation to fertility and pregnancy. Fisher has conducted extensive epidemiological studies both in clinical and community settings across Australia, Vietnam, and Nepal, and has led numerous nationally funded intervention trials. She has supervised more than 50 postgraduate research candidates. Additionally, Fisher is an expert technical advisor to international organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the United Nations Population Fund, contributing her expertise to address the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
