Dr. Jane Mills

Biography

Jane Mills is an Associate Professor at the School of the Arts and Media, University of New South Wales, where she has greatly influenced film and media education since joining in 2014. Before this, she served as an Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University, where she also took on leadership roles. Mills has a comprehensive academic background with a Ph.D. from the University of Western Sydney, focusing on cultural studies in her doctoral thesis about Hollywood and transnational influences. With extensive experience in both academia and industry, she was previously a Principal Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and worked at the National Film and Television School and Granada Television. Mills has authored eight books and several articles on cinema, media literacy, and cultural representation. Her editorial roles include serving as Series Editor for Australian Screen Classics and Associate Editor for Fusion. A recognized figure in screen studies, she actively participates in various film festivals and serves on editorial boards, contributing to the discourse on media culture, education, and social change. Mills is also a committed advocate for screen literacy, having designed courses that promote media understanding across disciplines.
