Professor Dr. Janet Boekhorst

Biography

Janet Boekhorst is an Associate Professor and the Conrad Research Excellence Chair at the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, University of Waterloo. She received her PhD from York University and a Master of Industrial Relations from Queen's University. Her research interests focus on employee well-being, inclusion, and diversity, as well as workplace dynamics such as the impact of fun and star performers in organizational contexts. She has published research in high-impact journals, contributing critical insights to human resource management, organizational behavior, and health psychology. Her notable publications include studies on workplace heroics, employee citizenship behavior, and the effects of caring managerial behavior on employee wellness. Janet has received multiple awards throughout her career, recognizing her teaching excellence and research contributions, including a prestigious SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and recognition from the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology. She has also contributed significantly to academic literature through editor roles and collaborative research projects focusing on modern workplace challenges in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
