Dr. Janice Mejia

Biography

Janice Mejia is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University. Her academic expertise includes Design Thinking Communication and Master Engineering Management programs, where she emphasizes curriculum assessment and engineering identity. Dr. Mejia's research employs mixed methods to explore these fields and is particularly focused on the development of engineering education. Throughout her career, she has also taught various college preparatory programs. Prior to her tenure at Northwestern, she worked in both for-profit and non-profit sectors, aiming to optimize technologies and processes within organizations. Janice has received significant recognition for her contributions to education, including the NACADA Region 5 Faculty Award for Excellence in Advising in 2021, the Cole-Higgins Award for Excellence in Advising in 2017, and recognition on the Associated Student Government Faculty Honor Roll for Excellence in Teaching in both 2016 and 2014. Her publications on engineering education aim to challenge traditional narratives and promote inclusivity. Dr. Mejia holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Science Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.A. in Higher Education Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University, and an M.A. in Applied Professional Studies in Organizational Leadership from DePaul University, alongside her B.S. in Industrial Engineering Management Sciences from Northwestern University.
