Biography

Janine Carlock has been teaching for 28 years in higher education, focusing on ESL programs and writing centers. She has experience with first-year graduate writing programs and is particularly interested in the writing process and promoting the development of students' writing expertise. Her current research interests include science learning, small teaching practices, online teaching practices, and reflection in teaching and learning. Janine is acutely aware of the changing landscape of higher education, where teachers must continually adapt their practices to meet the evolving goals and needs of students. She has served as a project coordinator and co-authored two books: 'International Student’s Guide to Writing Research Papers' and 'ESL Writer’s Handbook' along with an accompanying workbook. Additionally, she has written solo works, including 'Developing Information Literacy Skills: A Guide to Finding, Evaluating, and Citing Sources.' Currently, she is working on a writing project that discusses teaching practices informed by science learning, and aims to help students thrive and understand effective learning practices.
