Biography

Janna Klostermann is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary. She completed her PhD at Carleton University in 2021, where she was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for Outstanding Graduate Work at the Doctoral Level. Her research focuses on feminist sociology, health and illness, care work, and organizational relations, with a particular interest in long-term residential care. Klostermann has contributed to various SSHRC-funded projects and has taught courses on sociology of work, health, and gender care work since joining the University in 2022. She is also engaged in a book project entitled 'Limits of Care' which explores the narratives around gendered care work through sociological memoir writing and life history research. Additionally, she has been involved in various research initiatives addressing care work cultural expectations, especially concerning public sector shortages in Alberta's long-term care sector.
