Biography

Jarrard Harris is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Music Department at Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts, where he teaches Jazz History. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Harris is a distinguished saxophonist and educator. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, where he studied jazz studies under notable faculty. After completing his degree, he continued his education at DePaul University and earned a master's degree in jazz studies while studying with esteemed educators. Currently residing in Chicago, he has served on the jazz faculty at Northwestern University, Columbia College Chicago, and the City Colleges of Chicago. Harris is also the director of jazz studies with the Chicago Public Schools' Advanced Arts Education Program, where he cultivates young talent. He maintains an active private teaching studio and participates as a director, clinician, and guest artist at various festivals. Throughout his career, he has performed with a wide range of jazz artists and ensembles and is a founding board member of the Jazz Education Network, as well as a board member of the Jazz Institute of Chicago.
