Dr. Jason Hickey

Biography

Jason Hickey is an Associate Professor at the University of New Brunswick, where he holds the CIHR Indigenous Research Chair. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Manchester (2018) and various degrees from Canadian institutions, including a Master’s in Nursing from McGill University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Dalhousie University. His research focuses on Indigenous wellbeing, cross-cultural research, and mental health promotion among vulnerable populations. Hickey has published numerous articles in academic journals, including works on the recovery process from mental illness and health disparities faced by Indigenous groups. He employs grounded theory and mixed methods in his research. His teaching portfolio encompasses courses on nursing practices, mental health challenges, and Indigenous health perspectives. He has also led significant research grants addressing Indigenous health and homelessness, emphasizing community-based participatory approaches and mentorship in research.
