Biography

Jean-Claude Moubarac has been an Assistant Professor in International Nutrition at the Department of Nutrition at the University of Montreal since June 2016. He obtained a Bachelor's degree (2000) and a Master's degree (2002) in Anthropology, followed by a Doctorate in Public Health (2010) from the same institution. He pursued postdoctoral studies in Nutrition at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2011 to 2014. His research focuses on food systems, the role of cooking, and the impact of food processing on nutrition, health, and society. He is interested in public policies aimed at promoting healthy eating and the behavior of stakeholders in the food system, including the agri-food industry. Jean-Claude has collaborated on the development of the Brazilian food guide in 2014 and authored a report on the purchase of ultra-processed foods and obesity in the Americas for the Pan American Health Organization in 2015. His work aims to raise public awareness and inform the development of interventions and public policies to promote healthy eating and reduce the burden of obesity and chronic diseases.
