Biography

Jean-Éric Tremblay's research program aims to elucidate the processes determining the biological productivity and biogeochemical functioning of Arctic and subarctic seas, the transformations these seas undergo due to climate change, and the impact of these transformations on the North Atlantic and the east coast of North America, which are exposed to strong currents from the Far North. He particularly studies the impact of warming and ice melt on the Arctic Ocean's ability to provide abundant and high-quality marine food to coastal communities, for whom food security is a significant concern. He directed the strategic grouping Quebec-Ocean from 2013 to 2023 and currently directs the Nordic Institute of Quebec as well as the Laval University component of the new Apogee program ‘Transforming Climate Action: Addressing Missing Ocean’.
