Biography

Jeff Share is a senior lecturer in the Teacher Education Program at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Education and Information Studies. After a decade-long career in photojournalism, Jeff shifted his focus to education. He spent seven years teaching bilingual primary school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he earned his master's degree while researching the potential of teaching students to think critically about media. His passion for media literacy led him to the Center for Media Literacy, where he served as Regional Coordinator, writing curriculum and leading professional development. He returned to school to earn a Ph.D. in Education. Under the mentorship of Douglas Kellner, Jeff conducted research in critical media literacy and has published numerous articles on the subject. He has contributed to the media literacy field through his involvement with the National Council of Teachers of English and the Japanese American National Museum. Currently, Jeff teaches courses in critical media literacy and environmental justice, and he has presented at national and international conferences. His publications include books and articles focused on media literacy and climate change, emphasizing the transformative role of education in understanding these critical issues.
