Biography

Jeffrey Komar is a highly sought-after violist and chamber musician based in London, Ontario. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in viola performance at Western University in 2023, studying under violist Sharon Wei of the New Orford String Quartet. Jeffrey's research includes collaborations with non-Indigenous musicians and Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) Nations communities in southwestern Alberta, supported by the Doctoral Award scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. In June 2024, he is invited to present his doctoral research at the American Viola Society Festival at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, California. Over the years, Jeffrey has shared the stage with esteemed musicians such as Scott St. John, Simon Docking, Thomas Wiebe, and Annette-Barbara Vogel, and has performed with ensembles across Ontario, including the Stratford Symphony Orchestra and London Symphonia. Together with his wife, soprano Lauren Bryant-Monk, he co-curates concerts under the banner of Red Door Concerts. A dedicated educator, Jeffrey teaches strings and chamber music at the Forest City String School and at Maple & Spruce Music Academy, offering individualized instruction to students of all ages and abilities.
