Biography

Jennifer D. Adams is a Professor at the University of Calgary’s Werklund School of Education and a Tier II Canada Research Chair focused on Creativity in STEM education. She completed her PhD in Urban Education at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, in 2006. Before her appointment in Calgary in 2017, she served as an Associate Professor of Science Education at Brooklyn College. Adams has a diverse teaching background, having taught high school Biology in New York City and worked in teacher education at the American Museum of Natural History. Her research emphasizes equity in STEM teaching and learning, focusing on anti-deficit, learner-centered, and justice-oriented approaches. She is the founding editor of the International Journal of Informal Science and Environmental Learning and has served on multiple committees in national and international educational associations. Her interests include racial equity in STEM education, discipline-based education research, and qualitative research approaches.
