Dr. Jennifer Gruno

Biography

Jennifer Gruno is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Victoria specializing in Exercise Science and Physical and Health Education. She holds a PhD from the University of Victoria, where she also earned her Bachelor of Education and Master's degree in Physical Education. With a strong emphasis on outdoor learning and teacher education, her research focuses on fostering meaningful connections between young people and nature, particularly through nature-based physical activities and literacy in the context of health education. She is actively engaged in developing programs that promote professional growth for pre-service and in-service teachers. Her selected publications reflect her interests in the intersections of human-nature connectedness and effective teaching practices in physical health education. Gruno's work aims to contribute to the enhancement of educational approaches that incorporate nature and physical activity, supporting the overall well-being and development of students.
