Jenny Nex studied music at the University of Edinburgh and specialized as a singer in historical performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She gained her MA in Museum Gallery Management from City University in 1997. In August 2005, she became the Curator of the Museum at the Royal College of Music and, in 2013, transitioned to a similar role at the Musical Instrument Museums Edinburgh, based at St Cecilia’s Hall. Her research interests focus on the context, design, and construction of historical musical instruments, particularly the economic activities of musical instrument makers in London during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, which she explored during her PhD at Goldsmiths College, completed in 2013. Her work has been recognized by the Frances Densmore Prize from the American Musical Instruments Society, and she published findings in the Gaplin Society Journal in 2014. In addition to her curatorial work, Jenny continues to sing whenever possible, notably with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus and the choir at Old Saint Paul's Church.
