Biography

Jeong Eun Annabel specializes in modern Korean literature and culture, with a focus on decolonial thought and broader engagement in transpacific scholarship. Their research addresses questions of decolonization in Korea through the lens of engagements with Korean, diasporic, Native American, and Caribbean thinkers and authors. Annabel’s book, 'Decolonial Becoming: Immobility, Indigeneity, Disability in Transpacific Korea' (under contract, Duke University Press), traces concepts of indigeneity and disability as they relate to immobility at the margins of multiple empires, while considering the dynamics of militarism and settler colonialism in the Pacific. They are also working on a book titled 'Archaepelago,' which will explore spirituality and environmental issues that shape art and social movements in militarized islands of the Pacific. Annabel has been actively involved in higher education as a faculty member at Northwestern University where they offer courses that cover topics such as disaster narratives, feminist and queer theories, disability studies, colonialism, and transpacific literature. In the 2025-2026 academic year, they will introduce new courses on body horror in transpacific art and a research capstone seminar.
