Biography

Jeremy Sortore is an actor trainer and embodied performance educator currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has an active schedule of university teaching, guest lecturing, workshop and conference presentations, private instruction, and production work. His teaching is informed by somatic practices and pedagogies including Fitzmaurice Voicework®, Knight-Thompson Speechwork, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, and Hatha Yoga. He also incorporates Stanislavski-based acting techniques such as Active Analysis, along with trauma-informed practices. Jeremy is a faculty member of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance at the University of Michigan, beginning in Fall 2022. Prior to this role, he was an Associate Professor and Head of the BFA Performance program at Utah Valley University. His extensive teaching background includes positions at Harvard University, the American Repertory Theater Institute, City College of New York, Muhlenberg College, and many others. He holds an MFA from the Moscow Art Theater School and a master’s and bachelor’s in vocal performance from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Additionally, he has completed post-baccalaureate work and has a minor in communication disorders. Jeremy is a dedicated member of several professional organizations and has received recognition as an Early Career Leader in 2017.
