Biography

Jeroen Candel is an Associate Professor at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, specializing in sustainable, healthy, and equitable food systems. His research bridges the fields of Political Science and Food Systems Research, focusing on how governments can effectively steer food systems towards sustainable and inclusive outcomes. Jeroen's work examines key areas such as innovative food policy, urban food policy, national strategies, and the EU’s Farm-to-Fork Strategy. He investigates food and nutrition security governance, along with agricultural policy, including the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy and ambitions for circular agriculture. Additionally, his research delves into food politics, including political capture and lobbying, as well as public policy theory related to EU policymaking, policy integration, and framing. He actively collaborates with policymakers and societal stakeholders, providing insights to enhance food governance. Jeroen also leads training and workshops for diplomats, politicians, and professionals, helping them navigate the complexities of food policy governance.
