Biography

Jessica Gephart is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington's College of the Environment, specifically within the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences. Her research focuses on the intersection of seafood globalization and environmental change, where she evaluates how seafood trade drives distant environmental impacts and how environmental shocks can disrupt seafood trade. Dr. Gephart received her PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center. She has served on the Scientific Leadership Team of the Blue Food Assessment and has co-led the environmental justice chapters. Currently, she serves as a U.S. Science Envoy for the U.S. Department of State.
