Biography

Jessica Sommerville studies cognitive development in infancy and preschool, with an emphasis on social and moral cognition, the relations between behavior and action/perception, and memory development. As a prominent researcher, she serves as a Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Associate Director for the Foundations for Social, Emotional, Cognitive Competence Center at the University of Washington. Sommerville received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2002 and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Washington in 2003. Her work has been funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the John Templeton Foundation, and additional intramural funding from the University of Washington.
