Jessie Chin is an associate professor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research programs aim to advance knowledge in cognitive sciences, focusing on evolving human interaction with contemporary information technologies, understanding and developing coupling cognitive systems to augment performance in complex cognitive activities, and translating theories from social behavioral sciences into computational models to design sociotechnical solutions that enhance health communication behaviors over a lifespan. As a translational cognitive scientist, she conducts use-inspired basic and applied research to examine how individuals and groups interact with complex information environments using mixed methods that include controlled experiments, user studies, field studies, analysis, and computational modeling. Chin has received funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the Jump ARCHES program, and the Cancer Center at Illinois. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and postdoctoral training in systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo. Before joining the iSchool, Chin was a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences at the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago.
