Jill Dixon is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Basic Dental Sciences at the University of Manchester. Her research group utilizes functional genomics to explore the fundamental processes underlying craniofacial development, with a particular focus on the roles of various factors in human congenital anomalies, specifically cleft palate. Cleft palate has an estimated incidence of 1 in 2500 live births and can occur as an isolated entity or as part of broader syndromic conditions involving structures beyond the palate. Recent advances in understanding the molecular mechanisms of cleft palate have stemmed from analyzing syndromic forms, highlighting mutations in genes such as p63, interferon regulatory factor 6, and nectin 1. Her lab combines developmental biology, gene targeting, mouse transgenics, and biochemical techniques to investigate the pathways involved in palate development. Dixon has previously held positions including Post-doctoral Research Assistant and MRC Research Training Fellow at the University of Manchester.
