Biography

James Glass is a Senior Research Scientist and leads the Spoken Language Systems Group at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds both S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research expertise spans a wide range of topics in speech and natural language processing. Currently, his research focuses on self-supervised learning for speech and language processing, as well as cross-modal learning involving audio, speech, and vision. Glass has a particular interest in the development of speech and language processing techniques as biomarkers for health and improving conversational interactions. He has published over 400 papers in refereed journals and conferences, and has supervised 110 master's and doctoral theses. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association.
