Biography

Jim Krieger, MD, MPH is the founding Executive Director of the Action Healthy Food (AHF) Institute and has served as the Executive Director of Healthy Food America. He is a nationally recognized leader in the development and evaluation of community-based chronic disease prevention programs. His work has included supporting improvements in school nutrition and physical activity, implementing and evaluating the nation’s food labeling regulation, reducing exposure to sugary drinks, and expanding access to healthy foods for low-income populations. He has also supported the development of healthier built environments and the promotion of smoke-free policies in public housing. His initiatives, such as community health worker home visit programs aimed at improving asthma outcomes, have been widely replicated. In his current role as Executive Director of AHF, he focuses on promoting healthy food policy and conducting communications research. He has led numerous healthy community initiatives and received funding from organizations such as NIH, CDC, and private foundations. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Childhood Obesity and its Committee on Evaluating Progress in Obesity Prevention, and he has received numerous awards for his work, including the Secretary of Health and Human Services Innovation in Prevention award and the EPA Children’s Environmental Health Excellence Awards.
