Biography

Joanne Tanner completed her bachelor's degree in chemistry and chemical engineering at Monash University in 2008. She has industrial experience in process control, automation, and pilot-scale process design and implementation. She completed her PhD at Monash University in 2016, specializing in high-temperature reaction engineering. Currently, her research interests focus on sustainable processing, process scale-up, and experiential learning. Tanner’s teaching commitment includes courses such as Engineering Numerical Analysis, Process Control, and Integrated Design. She aligns her research with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of biorefinery, sustainable processes, green chemistry, green engineering, and heterogeneous catalysis. Over the past five years, she has collaborated on various external research projects, including a primary chief investigator role in the ARC Research Hub for Processing Lignocellulosics into High-Value Products. Tanner is actively involved in peer review for multiple academic journals.
