Dr. Jodi Streelasky

Biography

Jodi Streelasky is an Associate Professor at the University of Victoria, specializing in Language and Literacy, particularly in Early Childhood Education. With a PhD in Language and Literacy from the University of British Columbia, and two Master's degrees from the University of Regina, she is a recognized expert in exploring the intersections of literacy, ecological identities, and community involvement in education. Her research interests include Indigenous Knowledge integration, early childhood literacy, and environmental education, focusing on the experiences of newcomer children and families. Jodi has presented extensively at international conferences, engaging with diverse educational contexts to highlight children's voices and facilitate community-based approaches in educational settings. She has received significant funding for her research projects, notably from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, addressing the importance of socio-cultural contexts in literacy learning.
