Biography

Joe Barrett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Brock University. He holds an EdD and specializes in the areas of school health policy, health physical education pedagogy, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Dr. Barrett teaches several courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels focused on physical health education curriculum and instruction. His contribution extends beyond academia as he served as the Ontario representative on the Physical Health Education (PHE) Canada Board of Directors from 2013 to 2015, and held several leadership positions within the organization, including co-chair and chair of the PHE Canada Research Council. Additionally, he completed a two-year term as co-chair of the PHE Canada National Research Forum. His research interests include problem-based learning and sport coaching pedagogy, which align with his commitment to enhancing teacher education programs in Ontario. He is also associated with various educational associations relevant to his field, aiming to promote excellence in physical education across Canada.
