Biography

Joëlle Morrissette is a full professor in the Department of Administration and Foundations of Education at the Faculty of Education at the University of Montreal. She has been the president of the Association for Qualitative Research from 2016 to 2023. Her expertise lies in qualitative methodologies, particularly focus group interviews and the analysis of discussions therein. She applies an interactionist sociology of professional groups to explore various topics, including intercultural relationships in schools and the negotiation of tacit work conventions, as well as the professional integration of teachers trained abroad. Morrissette also conducts research on the experiences of individuals retraining in professions such as law and social work, analyzing how their supervisors socialize them into new work conventions through daily interactions. She teaches courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on topics such as epistemology and qualitative research, as well as advanced qualitative data analysis.
