Biography

Johanna Pejlare is a Senior Lecturer in Algebra and Geometry in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology. Her research focuses on the history of mathematics, particularly Swedish mathematics education. She studies some of the earliest Swedish textbooks from the 17th and 18th centuries and is interested in the mathematical concepts introduced in Sweden and the relationship between algebra and geometry. Pejlare has conducted research at the Akelius Math Learning Lab, collaborating with Chalmers University and the University of Gothenburg, developing freely available digital teaching materials for mathematics that can be used in refugee camps and schools with scarce resources. She led a project titled "Programming Learning Mathematics" from 2019 to 2021, financed by the University of Gothenburg, investigating how programming can offer new opportunities for learning mathematics. Moreover, Pejlare has participated in various projects, including a VR project focused on the role of algebra in school mathematics and an international comparative study on equation solving. She is a member of the TLM research group and part of the Nordic Network for Algebra Learning. Pejlare is also an active member of the advisory board for the International Study Group on the relations between History and Pedagogy in Mathematics.
