Biography

John V. Brown Jr. is a bass player, composer, producer, actor, and educator originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is a Professor of the Practice in Music at Duke University, where he has taught since 2018. Brown completed his Bachelor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has performed for notable figures including President and Mrs. Barack Obama and has shared stages with renowned artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, and Rosemary Clooney. His work has garnered a Grammy nomination, highlighting his significant contributions to the field of music. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he engages in various artistic projects and has been involved in public art installations.
