Biography

John B. Diamond is the Ford Foundation Professor of Sociology and Education Policy at Brown University. He holds a Kellner Family Distinguished Chair in Urban Education and has previously been a Professor of Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a sociologist, Diamond's research investigates the intricate connections between race and education, focusing on how social inequalities shape educational opportunities. He examines the influence of educational leadership and the ways in which policies and practices within school organizations affect student outcomes. Diamond's notable publications include 'Intentions: Racial Inequality Thrives in Good Schools,' co-authored with Amanda Lewis, and he is currently writing a new book titled 'Defending the Color Line,' which delves into issues of race in education. He has received significant funding from the Wallace Foundation for projects aimed at developing and implementing equity-centered principal pipelines in school districts across the United States, collaborating with colleagues from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and other institutions. In addition, Diamond is a member of the Advisory Board for the American Sociological Association's Sociology Action Network and serves on the National Planning Team for the Urban Research Action Network. He co-edits the journal 'Sociology of Education' with Odis Johnson Jr. and is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association.
