Dr. Johyun Kim

Biography

Johyun Kim is an Associate Professor in the field of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development at Texas A&M University. She earned her Doctorate in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in higher education and community college leadership. Prior to her current position, Dr. Kim served as the Associate Director of Institutional Research at Western Illinois University and as a Research Analyst at Parkland Community College, where she began her faculty career in higher education. Dr. Kim has held significant leadership roles, such as Chair of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission on Two-Year Colleges. Her research focuses on the high school-to-college transition and the various factors affecting students' access and success in higher education, particularly concerning dual enrollment, broadening access to STEM, and the linkage between community colleges and high schools. She is dedicated to examining how underserved youth and adult students succeed in higher education environments. Dr. Kim employs applied multivariate statistical methods in her research, conducting analyses of large datasets grounded in literature-based frameworks. Her work has been published in leading academic journals, and she has served on multiple editorial boards. Additionally, she is experienced in grant writing and has successfully secured funding for research projects. Throughout her career, Dr. Kim has taught advanced-level statistics, research methods, and courses focused on community college leadership, chairing numerous doctoral dissertations and participating in dissertation committees at her previous institution.
