Biography

Jonathan Lio, MD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago, where he serves as the Associate Director of the Wuhan University Medical Education Reform Project (WUMER) and Co-Director of the International Medical Educators Program (IMEP). Dr. Lio has collaborated with Chinese partners to develop high-quality residency training programs in response to China's national standardization of residency education. He has been instrumental in creating competency-based medical education frameworks for residency training in China. Since 2019, he has trained and mentored over 80 clinician-educators in China, enhancing their skills in curriculum design and teaching strategies. His alumni have implemented educational innovations in the field, received teaching awards, published scholarly work, and assumed leadership roles in medical education. Dr. Lio has been invited to speak at national residency training conferences in China and has provided advisory services to the China Medical Board Consortium of Elite Hospitals on residency training. At the University of Chicago, he is also a member of the Faculty Steering Committee for the Beijing Center, which promotes academic exchange and collaboration between the United States and China.
