Dr. Jose Franch Ballester

Biography

Jose Franch-Ballester is an award-winning Spanish clarinetist and Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Music. He is recognized as one of the finest classical soloists and chamber music artists of his generation, noted for his technical wizardry and rich, resonant tone. His accolades include winning the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008, as well as achievements in the Young Concert Artists auditions. Franch-Ballester made his New York debut in 2006 and has performed with renowned orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic. Additionally, he is active in the chamber music scene, having appeared at notable venues including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and is the artistic director of the ensemble miXt. His commitment to new music has led him to premiere works by contemporary composers, supporting the development of new audiences through educational concerts. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and has trained under esteemed mentors. Franch-Ballester continues to make significant contributions to the music community, both as a performer and educator.
