Dr. Josefina Magnusson

Biography

Josefina Eliaso Magnusson is an Associate Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg specializing in Subject Matter Education with a focus on Social Studies Education. Her research interests encompass sociolinguistics, multilingualism, and educational contexts, particularly emphasizing language ideology and identity processes. She earned her doctorate from the Centre for Research on Bilingualism at Stockholm University, where her thesis titled 'Language, Diaspora, Power' explored the language changes experienced by multilingual young adults in diaspora settings. Subsequent research projects have investigated the roles of multilingualism in study guidance and collaboration between study tutors and teachers, as well as professional education reform with a particular focus on language power dynamics. Magnusson is also known for her strong interest in bridging the gap between academia and wider society, having served as project coordinator for various teaching development initiatives in collaboration with the Swedish National Agency for Education. In her teaching role, she primarily focuses on the master’s program in didactics, supervising students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, mainly in the fields of sociolinguistics and teacher education courses.
