Biography

Joshua Palkki is an Associate Professor in the School of Music at Georgia Tech, where he conducts the Chamber Choir and the Glee Club. His research interests center on equity and justice in music education, focusing on inclusive practices for LGBTQIA+ students and teachers. An internationally recognized scholar, he has published work on these topics and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Queer Trans Studies in Education. Palkki earned his Ph.D. in music education with a cognate in choral conducting from Michigan State University and has previously taught at Arizona State University and California State University, Long Beach. He has led various choirs and contributed to numerous academic journals and book chapters. Additionally, Palkki is an active guest conductor and clinician with a keen interest in music learning theory and culturally responsive teaching. His work often appears in prestigious publications such as the Choral Journal and has been showcased at state and national conferences. Outside of academia, Palkki is passionate about cycling and plans to participate in the AIDS/LifeCycle event in June 2025.
