Biography

Judy Rice is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's Department of Performing Arts. A graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada, she has performed extensively across the U.S. and Canada with esteemed ensembles such as the Joffrey Ballet and the National Tap Dance Company of Canada. Judy is the inaugural recipient of the SMTD Teaching Excellence Award and co-founded the Alpha Dance Convention. With over 30 years of experience, she has taught for various regional companies and festivals including DMA, DEA, CNADM, and the Joffrey Ballet School. Judy has contributed to notable organizations in the dance field and served as a judge and faculty member for numerous dance competitions and training schools. She has also been a contributing writer for Goldrush magazine. In 2000, she co-founded Barres with pianist Paul Lewis and producer Rob Martens, producing multiple albums of ballet class music, including tracks featured on the ABC show Lost. Her television credits include appearances on renowned shows such as Fame and the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Judy has been associated with the University of Michigan faculty since 1990 and has also taught at Broadway Dance Center and Pace University.
