Biography

Juliana Martins is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in Urban Design at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London (UCL), where she currently serves as the Programme Director for the MPlan City Planning. She holds a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University of Lisbon, a Master of Arts in Housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and a PhD in Planning Studies from the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL. Prior to joining UCL, she worked as an architect and urban designer, also serving as a policy advisor in both public and private sectors. Over a five-year period, she was involved in designing large-scale urban projects and offices in London and Lisbon, contributing to the development of masterplans. Since 2010, she has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has served in various significant roles within the school, including Admissions Tutor for the MSc in Urban Design and City Planning. She is actively involved with the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP), co-leading the AI Planning Task Force and coordinating the AESOP Thematic Group on Planning Education. Juliana has a keen interest in connecting her research with her teaching and educational leadership at UCL internationally.
