Dr. Julie Hatfield

Biography

Julie Hatfield is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Science School of Aviation at the University of New South Wales, holding a PhD in Psychology from the University of Sydney. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in high-quality, leading-edge human factors behavioral research focused on health and safety. Her primary research areas encompass psychological contributors to risky behavior, such as risk perception, attitudes toward risk, personality factors, and distraction, particularly concerning technology. Julie's research also addresses driver education and safety for vulnerable road users, including aspects related to cycling and human responses to aircraft noise. She has extensive collaboration experience with multi-disciplinary research teams and industry partners and has authored around 200 publications, reports, and presentations while supervising 40 postgraduate students and 7 PhD candidates.
