Dr. Kam Bhui

Biography

Kam Bhui is a Professor of Psychiatry and Hon. Consultant Psychiatrist at the University of Oxford, as well as a Senior Research Fellow at Wadham College. He serves as Co-Director of the Centre Understanding Personality (CUSP) and holds distinctions such as being a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and an Honorary Professor at Queen Mary University of London. His research focus is on cultural epidemiology, cultural psychiatry, and the intersection of mental health with ethnicity and health services. His work aims to address ethnic inequalities in mental health outcomes, with special emphasis on conditions like severe mental illness and multimorbidity. Bhui is involved in various initiatives and organizations that seek to improve policy and practice in public mental health and has engaged in interdisciplinary research to develop solutions for complex issues in mental health. His studies include understanding the psychosocial factors affecting adolescent mental health, examining the role of adversity in mental illness, and exploring innovative digital interventions for mental health care.
